Meet Alexis: Introducing Our PepUp Tech Intern

Our partnership with PepUp Tech has delivered an unexpected gift in the form of Alexis Lockhart, 2021 PepUp graduate and current intern at Customertimes.

Based in Port St. Lucie, FL, Alexis was working as a registrar at a local hospital when she heard about PepUp Tech through an aftercare program that her son attends. The owner of the program had partnered with PepUp co-founder Selina Suarez to offer tech classes for the kids in aftercare. Alexis was introduced to PepUp’s Salesforce Academy, their training program for adults, and eventually joined the spring 2021 cohort.

James Goldfinger, Chief Customer Officer at Customertimes and member of the PepUp Tech Board of Directors, met Alexis when he and other CT experts joined the cohort to provide instruction and mentorship. Before long, he offered Alexis an internship at CT, an offer Alexis says she was “blessed” to receive.

“This experience has been eye-opening,” she says of her 3-month internship. “I’ve been shadowing James, and it’s given me the opportunity to participate in calls at the highest level.

“I’ve witnessed projects moving from ‘potential’ to ‘official,’ moving from an introduction to building a presentation deck to forming a team, working out a budget, and forming a SOW. And after all that, that’s when the hard work begins! I’ve learned way more than I expected.”

Her time with PepUp Tech and CT has opened her eyes to what she calls the “endless opportunities of Salesforce.” Though she was introduced to a variety of Salesforce roles during her training, she’s been able to see those things in action at CT and learn about complementary software platforms like MuleSoft and SAP.

Once she wraps up her internship, her next step will be to complete her Salesforce Administrator certification and begin the next phase of her professional career. And as she prepares to leave, she has some advice for the interns that come after her.

“Stay open!” she says. “I assumed I’d start doing Admin work as soon as the cohort ended, but that wasn’t the case. I had to watch and learn, and I’m so grateful that I did. Be open to the process, and learn the steps that it takes to make a project successful.”

“Alexis has been a pleasure to work with,” Goldfinger adds. “The quality of her PepUp training is evident. She’s demonstrated a great work ethic, a positive attitude, and a commitment to being a team player. I know she has a great career ahead of her!

“These internships are a natural extension of our partnership with PepUp Tech. We look forward to working with more of their alumni, and I encourage anyone that’s looking to align their organization with the Salesforce Lead program for Equality and Sustainable Development to consider partnering with PepUp Tech.

“They are an incredibly worthy Salesforce-oriented cause, and we’re proud to play a part in their overall mission to empower the next generation of tech leaders through education.”
